  Dear Hardonians

Lady Hardinge Medical College was started on March 17, 1916. To begin with there were only 16 students which increased slowly and steadily . In 1956, when my admission came through an All India Entrance Test the number was 60 , which as of now is 130.

To keep in touch with the graduates an Old Students Association (OSA)was started in early years.OSA organised an elaborate LUNCH in March every year. It continued as such till 1995 when some graduates especially Dr. Indra De and others felt the need to be more active old students. A large meeting was called wherein everyone felt the need to rename OSA as LHMC Alumni Association and be more proactive in helping our Alma mater. Thus OSA was renamed LHMC Alumni Association in February 1995.The main objectives were:

Dr. Krishna Garg
Founder President
(1995-2001)

  • To get the Association registered
  • To make life members of the Association
  • To publish a Directory of the Life Members
  • To collect funds for starting scholarships
  • To start scientific sessions/orations
  • To honour Silver Jubilee Batch Student
LHMC Alumni Directory got published in 1996 and was inaugurated by Dr. Sushila Nayar, a Hardonian and Union Miinister of Health.
Now more than ten years hence LHMC Alumni Association is in fairly good position, though there is lot of scope for improvement. There is funding to our Association from LHMC Association of North America. We are obliged to them. The number of prizes, medals and scholarships have been steadily increasing. Silver Jubilee Batches have been doing excellent job in terms of honouring their teachers, exotic entertainment and donation towards our Association.
I entered this great institution in 1956 and had to prefer LHMC to newly started AIIMS. Since Anatomy was my favourite subject, Anatomy Department took me where I served for 32 years.Since students were from many states we got to know their diverse culture. Our classmate Dr. Sheela Ganju took three of us to Srinagar in 1958 and showed us the Place. We are so obliged to her and her family for this kind act.
We learnt lots of traditions and values in this institution. Who can forget the STAFF PARTY TO THE STUDENTS which brought staff and students very close to each other. The seniors in our Department were strict as far as work was concerned but were very kind and compassionate otherwise. With guidance from Dr.Mohini Kaul, Dr. Indira Bahl and Dr. Chandrama Anand we could publish Text Book of Histology, Text Book of Neuroanatomy and Basics of Human Embryology. Last but not the least an opportunity was provided to me to edit the three volumes of B.D.Chaurasia's Human Anatomy which got published in 2004. With education from LHMC my hands are full with books to write and edit.
I am extremely grateful to Almighty for giving me an opportunity to study and serve in LHMC.

  With best wishes

Krishna Garg
