A. GLIMPSE OF ACTIVITIES RELATING TO  FEMALE FOETICIDE

You are aware that the declining number of females  per 1000 males is a matter  of concern in the country . One of the reasons attributed for this is the practice of determination of sex of  the foetus and aborting it, if, found to be a female. In order to check the misuse of such technology. Pre-conception and  Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT)) Act is being implemented in the country. This Act  prohibits sex selection in any form and also bans advertisement relating to sex selection.

It is, nevertheless, recognized that mere legislation is not enough to deal with this problem which has roots in social  behaviour and prejudices . Hardinge Medical College Alumni Association  activist have been very active on this front. A number of awareness generation and IEC activities are being  undertaken all over the country by Lady Hardinge Medical College Alumni Association along with IMA, FOGSI and other NGOs.

Hardonians are requested  to intensify the awareness generation at each  district level

Through holding  workshops for doctors, gynaecologists and ultrasonologists.
To make public aware about PC-PNDT Act campaign
Rope in to civil society members /girls in  schools and college/nurses and public health workers to  stop female foeticid

You will be happy to know that quite  of few of our hardonians are Appropriate authorities at state and  district level. Glimpse of activities is shown by  few photographs.
